Amaravati Metro | AMRC issues EOI for preparation of DPR for Vijayawada Metro

Vijayawada: The Amarawati Metro Rail Corporation (AMRC) inviting expression of interest through a Germany based tender agent. The objective of this study is to prepare a detailed Feasibility Study (“Detailed Project Report”) for the city of Vijayawada through validating the MRTS-options and conclusions of the pre-feasibility assessment and assessing the different design options of a Light Metro/ LRT system for Vijayawada.

In a pre-feasibility assessment conducted in July 2017, Light Metro/Light Rail Transit was
identified as the most suitable mass transit system for Vijayawada. The system would
comprise of two corridors (26 km) initially identified for the metro, plus additional extensions as feasible (e.g. to Vijayawada Airport and another corridor of approx. 5 km).The broad indicative scope of services includes the following tasks:-

  • Validation of the mass transit system for Vijayawada based on the alternate analysis
    provided in the existing pre-feasibility

Vijaywada Metro | State Govt. decides to run light metro instead of proposed metro rail

Vijayawada: The state government has decided to replace the heavy metro with light metro which is also called, Light Rail Technology (LRT), or Light Rapid Transit, extend one of the corridors till Gannavaram airport and add one more corridor from Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS) to Jakkampudi colony. With these latest decisions, Vijayawada metro rail will have three corridors of total 40kms.

The decisions were taken based on the report submitted by a public transport expert, Edward Datson, belonging to Kreditanstalt fur Wiederaufbau (KfW), a German financial institution, on the feasibility of light metro for Vijayawada city. Datson studied the demography of Vijayawada city and its peripheral areas, among various other aspects, for 15days. He met the chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday and submitted his report. KfW had come forward to fund Vijayawada metro.

Vijayawada Metro | Andhra CM Naidu backtracks on Vijayawada Metro Rail Project

Vijayawada: After giving much hype to the proposed metro rail project connecting Vijayawada and new capital of Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu seems to have backtracked on the project for reasons known only to him.

The Naidu government has suddenly cancelled the tenders called by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, which is overseeing the Vijayawada metro rail project. This is the second time that the tenders have been called off since inception.

The metro project is implemented by a special purpose vehicle named as, Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation (AMRC). The project which is estimated to cost around Rs 6769 crore, was awarded to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

DMRC’s successful execution of the Delhi Metro Rail project was the primary criteria to award the Vijayawada Metro Rail project to them.

According to reports, the DMRC was supposed to complete phase-1 of the project by December 2018 which consists of two corridors

Vijayawada Metro | DMRC suspends tendering process of metro rail project

New Delhi: The Vijayawada metro rail project appears to have hit a hurdle, as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has suspended the ongoing tendering process.

The DMRC is providing technical support for the project’s execution.

While the government was hoping to finalise a contractor within a week’s time, it could be deferred due to this development. Issues with the land acquisition process and delay in obtaining clearance from the Public Investment Board (PIB) which has said that the project is not viable, were cited as reasons for the DMRC to take this decision.

DMRC had earlier cleared the technical evaluation and studied the financial bids by L&T and Afcons Infrastructure.

“We have written to the DMRC seeking to know the reasons for cancellation of the tendering process.”, said  NP Ramakrishna Reddy, Managing Director of Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation (AMRC).
